Historvius (mapping history)

Upgrades! Introducing Historvius 2.0

Historic-Sites-Google-StreetviewYou may have noticed that Historvius looks a little different lately! That’s because we’ve just completed a major upgrade to the site which brings a raft of new features for you to explore.

STREETVIEW

One of the most exciting upgrades, and one that’s proved to be endless fun in testing, is the integration of Google Streetview into the mapping areas.

Google Streetview allows you to explore historic sites as though you were really there – you can wander along the roads, streets and sidewalks and even explore the interior of some of the most famous historic sites of all.

To use Streetview, simply drag the Streetview Figure (located in the top left) into the map whenever you see he is orange. Watch the video (right) for a quick demo.

Our tip, check out Fountains Abbey, Stonehenge & Avebury Ring, explore Pompeii, The Colosseum and take a walk on the Appian Way. And for a bit of peace and quiet, take a moment to wander the gardens at The Palace of Versailles or Palazzo Pitti.

Whether you’re keen on knowing your way around before you visit, or just like exploring from the comfort of your computer, this is a great way to see the sights! Explore our top picks at www.historvius.com/streetview

HOTELS

If you’re constantly trying to find hotels that give you great access to historic places or just want to see what’s around a particular hotel, then our new ‘hotels’ tab will lend a hand.

You can find hotels near any historic site, shortlist hotels and even book through our partner Expedia. You can even use our dynamic mapping systems to view both your shortlisted historic sites and your shortlisted hotels on a map to help you decide which hotel has the perfect position for you.

You can watch the quick introduction video (right) to find out more about this great new feature - use the 'Full Screen' option to get the best view.

Check out the ‘hotels’ tabs or explore through the planner page to start your trip planning now.
