Acre
Acre is an ancient city in Israel which was of crucial strategic importance during the Crusader period. It was captured by Richard the Lion Heart in 1191 before falling to the Mameluks one hundred years later.

Arsuf
Richard I - the Lionheart - defeated Saladin’s army here at the Battle of Arsuf in 1191 AD. The site also contains the remains of a later Crusader castle.

Clifford’s Tower
Clifford’s Tower is a 13th century castle which witnessed the massacre of the Jews of York in 1190. It was one of many such incidents which took place at the start of the rule of King Richard I.

Rouen Cathedral is an historic gothic church and the place where Richard I’s heart is buried.

Vezelay Basilica
Vezelay Basilica is a twelfth century Romanesque church and the site of a famous meeting between Richard the Lionheart and Philip Augustus in July 1190, just prior to their departure on the Third Crusade.
